Meet Our Paralympic Athletes

Adam Berdichevsky

Israel’s National Wheelchair Tennis Champion

During a post-IDF service trip, a fierce storm struck the boat Adam Berdichevsky and his then-girlfriend, Hila, were on, capsizing the vessel. While saving Hila’s life, Adam was sucked into the engine, resulting in the loss of his leg.

Adam and Hila married, raising their three at Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak. On October 7th, their Kibbutz was attacked, and the family spent 12 hours hiding in their safe room until they were rescued.

Despite these obstacles, Adam has risen to the top ranks of Israeli wheelchair tennis players and represented Israel at the 2016 Rio Paralympics and the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Since the horrors of 10/7, he has been staying with his friend and fellow Paralympian, Guy Sasson, as they train together.

Nadav Levi

Israel’s First International Boccia Star

Nadav Levi, who has cerebral palsy, has been a committed member of the Israel ParaSport Center since his teenage years. Introduced to boccia in 2008 when the sport was first brought to The Center, Nadav quickly embraced the challenge and began his journey in the sport.

Ranked 14th globally, Nadav represented Israel at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. In 2023, he was crowned Israeli Champion and also earned 3rd place at the Croatia Open.

Nadav’s success has been supported by his father, Shuki Levi, who unexpectedly passed away while in Paris during the current Paralympic Games. The bond between Shuki and Nadav was extraordinary. Shuki stood by his son at every tournament from the very beginning, offering unwavering love and strength.

Sergei Lysov

Wheelchair Tennis Prodigy

From a young age, Sergei Lysov was an athlete, starting with acrobatics at three and transitioning to soccer at four. When he was nine, he was diagnosed with Perthes’ disease, forcing him to leave his football aspirations behind.

Turning adversity into opportunity, Sergei discovered wheelchair tennis and quickly excelled in the sport. Today, he is celebrated as one of the world’s greatest wheelchair tennis players.

In 2019, Sergei and his family moved from Russia to Israel in search of better opportunities and services. The Israel ParaSport Center played a crucial role in their transition, assisting with everything from immigration to finding housing and employment.

Guy Sasson

World-Class Wheelchair Tennis Star

In 2015, Guy Sasson was injured in a ski accident that left him paralyzed. Following extensive rehabilitation, Guy sought a new way to stay active and continue his recovery. During a visit to the Israel ParaSport Center in Ramat Gan, he rediscovered his childhood passion for tennis, and embraced the challenge of wheelchair tennis and quickly excelled in the sport.

Guy first competed in the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo, and is currently ranked 3rd in the world for quad singles. His recent successes include wins at the Victorian Wheelchair Open, Melbourne Wheelchair Open, and Georgia Open, along with a second-place finish at the Australian Open, where he defeated the world champion.

A father of four, Guy manages a real estate investment company on top of balancing  his intense training.

Maayan Zikri

Israel’s Rising Star in Wheelchair Tennis

At the age of 10, Maayan Zikri lost her leg in an amusement park accident while on vacation in Holland. Despite the challenges, she refused to let this setback define her future. Instead, she channeled her determination and resilience into the world of wheelchair tennis, where she quickly rose through the ranks.

In April 2022, at just 20 years old, Maayan secured her first international title by winning the Hungarian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championship. She has since claimed titles in Switzerland, England, and Romania. Her most recent victory was a first-place finish at the X Open Bai De Setúbal Tennis Tournament in July 2023.
